WPBL

Weighted Private Block List
WPBL is an automated block list fed by statistical filters and spamtraps. Our members report the sightings internally, and our database periodically compiles a list of current spam sources. Only individual IP addresses are listed, and all entries are temporary. They expire with time and can be immediately removed by anyone through the Lookup facility.
This is NOT a public spam blocking service. WPBL should not be used to block mail or deny SMTP connections. It is most effective in a scoring-based system rather than black-and-white filtering.

[edit] Zones
- New public DNSBL is db.wpbl.info
- Large sites needing several thousand queries per hour can use rsync for more efficient data transfer. Please contact WPBL through their web site for the rsync location (no cost)
[edit] Listing
There is no single authority who decides what is spam. Members report the IP addresses that sent junk (this may include viruses, worms, and irrelevant mailer bounces). It is most accurate to say that WPBL lists sources of mail considered by its members to be spam. IP addresses which send non-spam to members are also automatically whitelisted to minimize false positives.
[edit] Removal
- IP addresses are automatically removed with time, after spam stops arriving. For example, a lone spam sighting will only get an IP listed for 4 days (may change depending on load).
- You can also remove an IP address using the no-questions-asked, instant removal facility.
- Removed records still remain in database backups, and may be restored in cases of abuse.
